Same Day Crowns
Hi. Welcome to our same day crowns page. I’m Bryce Duskin, owner and one of the dentists here at Eagle Family Dental. Our office offers same day crowns to replace broken teeth same day. Crowns are a convenient way for patients to come in and have their tooth restored in one appointment, no need for a temporary, and coming back later, same day. Crowns offer their advantage for our dentists because we can be more conservative because we don’t rely on retention to keep the temporaries on. What our patients love about same day crowns is they get the treatment done in one day. They don’t need to come back for a second visit, and they don’t have to wear temporaries.
CEREC Same Day Dental Restorations
So the first thing that happens is one of our highly trained dentists, we’ll do an exam, see if you need a crown. Is a crown the best thing for your tooth or not? And if they’ve determined that crown or a CEC restoration is the best thing for your tooth, they’ll numb it up so that you’re super comfortable. They prep the tooth. Usually what the advantage of CEC is, we can be a lot more conservative, save a lot more of the good tooth. We just take away cavities or broken parts of a tooth, and then we shape it so that the porcelain will fit onto the tooth. After we shaped your tooth, we basically take a scanning wand in your mouth and we take a digital impression. It scans a 3D image of your teeth. Then we put that image of your teeth into our designing software. We use the CAD software to basically design your tooth customly for you and that one tooth. And the technology allows us to use a porcelain that is going to match the color and appearance of your natural tooth. After we’ve designed it, we send it to our milling unit. The milling unit then mills your crown to our specifications, and then we put it in the oven, and the oven heats the crown and makes it a little stronger. And then we put the crown into your mouth. So sometimes we just need to adjust in your mouth occasionally, just so it fits just perfect. But if we determine that everything looks great and feels great, then we glue it on your tooth. The advantage of CEREC is that we can do the crown in one day. So you just come in, have the crown done, and you’d leave with the permanent crown glued in there. You don’t have to worry about temporary crowns, you don’t have to worry about coming back. So that’s the huge advantage. And the dentists get to be a lot more conservative with the tooth preparation because a traditional crown, they cut down a lot more, a good tooth structure to make it work.
Real Patients – Real Results
CEREC Same Day Crowns
- The patient presented with significant occlusal wear on teeth #18 and #19, resulting in heightened sensitivity. The wear pattern was extensive, compromising the structural integrity of the teeth and leading to discomfort during chewing.
- To restore functionality and alleviate sensitivity, we opted for same-day ceramic onlays. These onlays were meticulously designed to restore the occlusal surfaces while preserving as much natural tooth structure as possible. The before and after images illustrate the transformation:
- Before: The occlusal surfaces of both molars exhibited severe wear with exposed dentin, leading to pronounced sensitivity.
- After: The ceramic onlays were bonded in place, effectively restoring the lost tooth structure. The onlays provide a smooth, durable surface that not only restores function but also alleviates the patient’s sensitivity, resulting in a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing outcome.
- This conservative approach allowed us to enhance the patient’s dental health and maintain the integrity of the surrounding teeth.

Faster, Easier, and More Comfortable Dentistry with CEREC Same-day Dental Crowns
Dental crowns are preferable if you have severely damaged or decayed teeth. Rather than fill the tooth multiple times and weaken its integrity, a dental crown wraps over the entire tooth to restore its health and appearance.
In many dental offices, getting a dental crown requires several dental appointments. But who has time for multiple dental visits in today’s demanding and bustling times? We understand you may not have the luxury of time when you want to restore your smile with dental crowns. Eagle Family Dental in Arlington, Washington, offers CEREC same-day dental crowns to repair your smile in one appointment. Single-appointment dental crowns mean no provisional crowns, no messy impressions, and no need for multiple visits.
What are Same-day dental crowns?
Also known as CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic) crowns, same-day dental crowns deliver same-day dental repairs using advanced design and manufacturing technologies. CEREC crowns use computer-aided design (CAD) technology to design your restoration to your tooth’s exact specifications. An in-house milling machine enables the fabrication of your crown right here in our office.
The process for CEREC same-day dental crowns
CEREC dental crowns are similar to traditional crowns but differ in the time taken. Traditional crowns require several appointments spanning several weeks to complete. CEREC crowns are completed in one day using the steps below.
- Tooth preparation: After numbing your mouth, we remove any of the decayed portions and reshape your tooth to create space for your crown(s).
- Digital impressions: Using an intraoral scanner, we’ll take precise, 3D images of your tooth to design your crown. Unlike traditional crowns, digital impressions are more comfortable and accurate than manual impressions.
- Designing and creating your crown: Your digital scans are fed into the CAD machine that creates your customized crown. Once satisfied with the crown design, we send it to the milling machine that carves the crown out of a ceramic block. Then you will have about 30 mins to relax, possibly read a book or magazine or check your phone. Before you know it, your crown will be ready for placement.
- Bonding your crown: Because of the accuracy of the CEREC technology, we’ll only make a few adjustments to your restoration. If you and your dentist are happy with the results, we use dental cement to bond the crown permanently to your teeth.
The process of traditional crowns can be long and unpleasant. With CEREC crowns, you can dodge the inconvenience of multiple appointments, messy molds, and temporary restorations. You’ll step into our office with a damaged tooth and walk out with a brand-new smile in less than two hours!
Frequently Asked Questions About CEREC Same Day Crowns
Who is a good candidate for same-day dental crowns?
Same-day crowns are ideal for patients with cracked, worn-down, decayed, or weakened teeth that need protection. Same-day crowns also work best for replacing old crowns. To qualify for dental crowns, you must have a stable root and healthy gums. A consultation with your Arlington dentist will help determine your eligibility.
What should patients expect during their same-day crown visit?
The procedure is quick and straightforward. Unlike traditional crowns, same-day crowns require 2-3 hours to complete. First, your appointment starts with preparing the tooth and taking a digital scan. Then, we use the computer-aided design (CAD) unit to create a 3D model of your crown. Once the design is approved, we’ll fabricate it in minutes with our in-house milling machine. Once it’s ready, we check the fit, make any necessary adjustments, and secure it in place with strong adhesives. That’s it! You leave the same day with a fully restored tooth.
Do same-day crowns have the same quality as traditional crowns?
You might wonder if speed compromises quality. The quick answer? Not at all! Same-day crowns are crafted from premium materials and executed with artistic excellence to achieve optimal aesthetics and longevity. Single-visit crowns perform just as well as lab-made crowns, if not better.
Do same-day crowns fit as well?
In many cases, they fit even better. Digital scanning allows for highly precise measurements, reducing human error. The result is a crown that fits snugly, feels comfortable, and blends seamlessly with your bite.
How long do same-day dental crowns last?
With good care, same-day crowns can last 10 to 15 years or longer. Longevity depends on oral hygiene and habits such as teeth grinding (bruxism). Ceramics are strong, but poor oral habits, such as fingernail biting, can shorten their lifespan. We’ll give you tailored aftercare tips to ensure your restoration lasts as long as possible.
How do I care for my same-day crown?
Like any dental restoration, proper maintenance ensures your same-day crown stays looking its best. Here are aftercare tips you should observe:
- Brush twice a day.
- Floss gently around the crown.
- Avoid chewing or biting non-food items.
- Keep up with routine dental visits.
- Consider wearing a mouthguard if you play sports or grind your teeth at night.
Does insurance cover same-day dental crowns?
Yes! Most dental insurance plans cover dental crowns, whether placed in a single or multiple visits. However, coverage varies by plan. Our team helps review benefits and explains costs upfront.
What is the cost of same-day dental crowns compared to traditional crowns?
In terms of pricing, single-visit crowns are almost in the same ballpark as conventional crowns. While they involve advanced technology, same-day crowns eliminate off-site lab costs and return visits, which balances the cost. Most importantly, many patients value the convenience of getting everything done in a single visit. That means patients with tight schedules no longer have to postpone the necessary care.
Are there any drawbacks to same-day crowns?
While convenient, same-day crowns aren’t ideal for every situation. Some complex cases may still require lab-made restorations. However, same-day crowns offer excellent results without compromise for many patients.
