From protecting teeth weakened by decay to restoring the shape of broken teeth to concealing stained teeth, porcelain crowns are one of the most versatile dental restorations used by our dentists at Eagle Family Dental in Arlington, Washington. Dental crowns protect a tooth after a root canal, can help anchor dental bridges, and function as a cosmetic treatment to enhance your smile.
If you are considering an elective dental crown procedure and wonder what happens during crown placement, continue reading the following concise descriptions of all the steps involved in getting porcelain teeth caps.
Our dentists evaluate damaged teeth using visual inspection, x-rays, and diagnostic tools to determine if a crown is the best treatment for your needs. They then discuss a personalized treatment plan, potential complications, and other relevant topics. They may suggest alternatives to dental crown procedures in cases of severe tooth decay, deep fractures, or periodontal disease.
Our dental practice uses CEREC technology, which allows us to create crowns in just one visit. This innovative process significantly streamlines your experience. We begin by administering local anesthesia to numb the area around the tooth. Then, we prepare the tooth by carefully removing a small amount of enamel to ensure a precise fit for the crown.
Our dentists use a CEREC scanner to capture detailed digital impressions of the tooth and surrounding area. This scanner captures high-resolution 3D images from multiple angles. The pictures are then processed by specialized software that allows our dentists to design your crown based on the dimensions of the prepared tooth.
Once the design is finalized, the information is transmitted to an in-office CEREC milling machine, which creates the crown using a block of ceramic material. This process usually takes about 15 to 30 minutes.
After the crown is milled and fired in a porcelain oven, we will examine its fit and color. You will be asked to bite down on the crown to ensure everything is aligned properly. If adjustments are necessary, we will make them at this time. Once everything is perfect, a thin layer of dental adhesive is applied to the inside of the crown and placed over the tooth.
Finally, a special curing light hardens the adhesive, securing the crown in place. With CEREC technology, you can leave the dental office with a fully functional, custom-fitted crown on the same day of your appointment.
Some people experience temporary tooth sensitivity after getting a dental crown. Until the sensitivity subsides, avoid extremely hot or cold foods and beverages to minimize discomfort. Continue brushing and flossing twice daily, and keep your appointments for all six-month dental check-ups.
If you have chipped, stained, or damaged teeth, porcelain teeth caps may be the dental restorative treatment you’ve been searching for. Please call (360) 322-1251 to schedule an appointment.
